Immunization Academy In Nigeria

Helping health workers keep learning while delivering immunisation services.

The challenge

Health workers needed regular, practical training that could fit around their work. CHAI partnered with Immunization Academy to introduce video learning and skills assessments in Nigeria.

My contribution

At CHAI, I led the Nigeria rollout team, working with government partners, Immunization Academy and colleagues. I also co-authored the published account with Shola Dele-Olowu and Akachi Mbogu.

Programme outcomes

CHAI’s February 2022 report recorded growth from nearly 10,000 to over 37,000 enrolled users nationwide after 15 months of expansion. More than 550 government-endorsed certificates had been awarded. Its end-line assessment found a 27% improvement in immunisation practice in high-uptake facilities, compared with 13% in low-uptake facilities. That comparison describes observed results; it does not establish that platform use alone caused the difference.

The partnership

These were programme-wide results delivered by CHAI colleagues, Immunization Academy, national and state agencies, and participating health workers and managers. Immunization Academy owns the learning tools. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation funded the work.
